Police in Mbarara on Friday morning at around 11am closed four motels after discovering they had hosted people who had tested for Covid-19, the respiratory illness caused by coronavirus.
The motels are Rwampara Suites, Leisure Park International, African Guest House, Golden Monkey Guest House and Acacia Hotel. They are all found in Kakoba division in Mbarara City.
Police say the patients and contacts who were hosted, include a URA official who was from Bunagana Border in Kisoro district, where his tested positive for the virus but his results were released when the two were already in Mbarara for two days.
The URA official slept at Acacia Hotel while the driver was hosted at African Guest House.
Another person, a money changer at Tanzanian border of Mutukura, slept in Leisure Park International and Golden Monkey Guest House and shared a room with a friend.
Police also closed Rwampara Suites due to its close proximity to Leisure Park “for safety purposes”
The money changer had also been tested at the Mutukura border but was informed of his results while he was already in Mbarara city.
The victims, according to police, have been referred to Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital for treatment and samples of their contacts have been taken for examination and quarantined at Rwetanga Farm Institute.
All workers at the mentioned motels and hotel, their samples have been taken for examination and those who had close engagement with the victims and their contacts have also been quarantined at the same place.
